Ask with Confidence

devotionI like cooking. I really do. Some days I stand over the kitchen counter – slicing, dicing, dashing, and mashing – all while pretending I’m the next Food Network star.

But with four growing children with big, growing appetites, sometimes cooking is more work than fun. And my 9-year-old definitely keeps me working! He always wants seconds – no matter what. Even when I think he’s had enough, he still asks for more.

Sometimes I want to say “no,” but it’s hard. And I know what you’re thinking: How can it be hard to say “no” to a 9-year-old? Well, let me tell you: It’s not because I feel guilty. It’s not because I’m trying to be buddy-buddy with my kid. And it’s, certainly, not because I’m softie.

It’s because of his confidence.

He looks me square in the eye and with a strong voice, asks, “Mom, can I have more?” Holding out his plate with both hands, it seems like he doesn’t have a speck of doubt.

Reflection of the Week:

There’s something about asking with confidence! A confident request is hard to deny. It shows that the asker truly believes in the giver’s ability to grant the request.

God is the True Giver. Let’s bring our requests to him with confidence.

Scripture of the Week:

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. –James 1:6 (NKJV)

Prayer:

God, I confidently ask you for (insert your requests here), in Christ Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Such a powerful reminder to come boldly to the throne and ask.
Also, I think I could totally rock the “Chopped” show. But then, I suppose, every mom could do that because it is not much different than what we do everyday. (Unless, of course, I got something gross in my basket, like snake. ewww).

LOL!!!! I’ve seen your food posts; yes, you could totally rock Chopped! I would be happy with a guest appearance on Barefoot Contessa. Ina Garten cooks with so much grace and makes it look so easy.
